유기하◞ ✰ ╎ TRIMESTER ( 03 ) : update — a peek inside yoo kiha’s phone!
what are the top 5 most used apps on your phone?
without saying a word, kiha reaches inside his leather jacket and pulls out his phone. much like kiha himself, it’s rather understated and doesn’t say a lot about him. a simple, black matte case. he inhales sharply before picking it up and unlocking it, staring at his home screen for a moment before opening his mouth. “kakao talk.” he mutters, glancing upwards for a second before looking back down at his phone. “discord.” kiha then says, once again looking upwards from his phone before returning his gaze to the screen. he purses his lips slightly. “uh, melon. of course. naver and then naver map.”
what is the most random note your notes app?
kiha furrows his brows, not entirely sure how to answer. "uh, i don’t use the notes app.” he says slowly, checking his phone even though he was certain of his answer. opening his notes application, he flips his phone around and shows a very empty notes section, almost as if he didn’t know that application existed on his phone. “i prefer to write things down the old fashioned way, actually.” he says quietly, turning his phone back to face him. “like with a pen and a piece of paper.” he murmurs. “i uh... have a planner... so i can... plan stuff.”
what was the last message or call you’ve received and who was it from?
kiha’s breath hitches in his throat, pausing for a moment before opening his mouth. “my last call would of been from taeha,” he says plainly. “who is my younger sister.” with his younger sister still being a student in daegu, the only way the two of them could really keep in contact outside of kakao talk or seeing each other in person when kiha managed to get home, was through voice call or facetime. he unlocks his phone, brows narrowing for a second as he searches for his latest message notification. he’s still not entirely sure as to why he agreed to do this. “as for my last message. it was from lee jiwon.”
what were the last five songs that you’ve listened to?
without saying anything, kiha opens melon on his phone, in search of the last five songs he had listened to. he wouldn’t say he had a broad taste in music, but it did vary every now and then. his most recent songs would be a good gauge of the music he enjoyed listening to. far from the industry he had landed himself in. he scrolls for a moment or so before glancing up from his phone. “the first song is btbt by b.i sunbaenim.” kiha says plainly. “then uh... robbers by the 1975.” he says plainly, once again. he glances back down at his phone. “half moon by dean sunbaenim, then yanghwa bridge by zion.t sunbaenim.” kiha clicks the lock button the side of his phone, facing it down atop of the table. “the last one was swim by chase atlantic.”
what were the 5 most recent online searches?
kiha stiffens in his chair, clearly annoyed about the questions that kept continuously coming. what were these for again? he reaches for his phone again and opens it, now opting for naver instead of melon. so now they wanted his most recent searches... just what was the point of this? “okay then...” kiha murmurs, narrowing his brows, looking up from his phone before glancing back down at it. “well, legacy family con twenty twenty two tickets.” he glances upwards. “my sister came up from daegu to our seoul concert, uh... i brought taeha and her friend a ticket each.” kiha explains. “uh, book depository.” he says in polished english. “i’m trying to read more often in english, so, english books... makes sense, i guess.” kiha shrugs. “overwatch 2, because that’s happening soon..., um... mandarake and then chicago.”

This is the end of 2019! We're finally going to miss out on a period so fatal for k-pop. I hope that with the coming of the new year for the k-pop, a new, better time will come. But of course we must also sum up the passing year 2019, which caused us a lot of worry, we cried many times and our surprise had no end when we heard about more and more scandals and dramas. I would like to briefly present to you what happened during 2019, unfortunately it is not easy.
2019 we started with one of the happy news. Namely, on January 1, the SM agency confirmed the rumors about Kai's relationship with Jennie. Unfortunately, it didn't last long, because at the end of the month the parting was announced. In the first month of this year we also received official information about the opening of P Nation by PSY. The first artists on the label were announced: Jessi, Dawn and Hyuna.
At the beginning of February, the network received a lot of news about 6 members of band x suing the president of one of the labels. The Internet users reacted immediately. Turns out the likely team is Ateen. ATEEN was a boy group under DS&A Entertainment. The boys sued the president for crossing the physical border and for sexual assault. Which means the boys didn't get a chance to make their debut in their country. They only promoted in Japan and the group unfortunately disbanded before making their debut in South Korea.
But in March, a real bomb fell on us. I think this is the scandal of the year: Burning Sun and Seungri in the lead role. I don't think I need to remind anyone of that. For every fan of BIG BANG it was a huge blow to the heart and at the same time a great shock. Of course, with the coming to light, a sex scandal was also revealed concerning the above-mentioned gentleman participating with a group of friends in a secret conference where they shared indecent pictures of their partners at the time.
In April few could participate in the Coachella Music & Arts Festival where the girls from Blackpink had their performance. April was their month. That's when their new single Kill this love was released. The song on the Youtube platform conquered the hearts of the fans in record time, which of course resulted in millions of views. Still, the song reigns among other Korean songs in this respect. The BTS single Boy with luv was also released in April. What was a duel between the tracks. But not only between them...
Band Prinstin had his disband in May. After two years, we said goodbye to them with a heavy heart.
June for Ikonic was terrifying. After the scandal that occurred in connection by the Dispach disclosures about the iKON B.I team leader, he had to leave the band. Actually, he was practically thrown out. It was one of many very controversial decisions this year. In the same month also Yang Hyun-suk, founder of YG Entertainment, stepped down from his duties as chief producer, in the aftermath of drug and sex scandals.
In June, also as the first kpop band, BTS gave a concert for 60 thousand fans at Wembley Stadium in London.
In July BTS leaded UNICEF's #EndViolence campaign. Kangin leaves Super Junior.
In August it was officially announced that Kang Daniel and Jihyo from Twice are meeting. August also turned out to be another month where YG reigned in information services. the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Intelligent Crime Investigation Unit had been conducting a search and seizure of the YG building starting from 9 a. m. KST. They had a busy morning. In early August fans of the popular show Produce x 101 filed a lawsuit against Mnet for manipulating the voting. The Mnet vote manipulation investigation showed that not only during this, but also during other seasons of the program, votes were manipulated.
And now we move on to a real avalanche of misery. October was probably the most tragic of all months in progress. It was this month that we received devastating information about Sulli's death ex-f(x). At the end of the month, Monsta X lost one of the team members. Wonho, after accusations made against him by one of the girls, known for such actions, unfortunately said goodbye to his friends and left Starship. Monsta X had a hard time this year. Many members had to deal with accusations against them.
In November we were greeted by information about the departure of JYP Woojin member of Stray Kids. Reason: personal matters. But I don't think we're gonna find out actually what happened. Unfortunately, we also said goodbye to former member of the KARA Goo Hara team, who, according to the media, was found dead in her home. A letter was also found at her. Musician Jung Joon-young was sentenced to six years in prison for raping a woman and distributing a video showing the act. Choi Jong-hoon, a former member of FT Island, was sentenced to five years prison for the rape of the woman. Both were members of online chat groups, this same as Seungri.
In December we could enjoy many galas with the participation of our beloved stars and celebrate the end of this fatal year for kpop.

My thoughts about the dropped teaser for Treasure's comeback because it wouldn't all fit in the tags:
- It's a mini album 💕💕 so in YG terms that's probably 4 songs. I actually prefer shorter albums to full lenght albums because I feel like I can connect to the music more?? But for a YG stan that also means that that's the only songs they'll release in a year lmao
- Will it include the songs they made for Teume this year like Everyday, BFF and the slow OST from their webdrama? Because while i'm happy I'll be able to listen to those on Spotify, they might not release many new songs then
- So happy we have a release date but it's the 15th of February which is soooo late lol How is that even possible??? Hyunsuk said on Teuday which was the 2nd of october that they would have their comeback before the end of the year... How did it get pushed back so far?? That's crazy YG's calendar is all over the place (+ Hyunsuk will have to hide his hair for another month 😂 what if it will be too warm for beanies? Will he wear caps? Poor man lol)
- They presumably filmed the MV or atleast did a lot of promotional shoots because so many members dyed their hair already. Hyunsuk went blond more than a month ago... Usually kpop artist do that like a month before the comeback for all the promotion shoots they do beforehand... So why did they do it so early?? I can only think of 2 reasons which is that 1) This comeback will be huge so they needed three months of preparations. I know YG has confirmed it will be huge but surely not to the point that they needed three months of preparation?? Or 2) they were going to comeback early January and something happened that made YG decide to push back the comeback date
- If Treasure is the first YG artist to have a comeback in 2022, when will all the other artists comeback?!?? I planned on making a post predicting the YG calendar of 2022 but they are already fucking with my predictions and the year hasn't even started yet omg
IKON will be next I think. Releasing a full album in March with a solo song by Jinhwan, followed by a WINNER album in April, after which Mino will join the military. BLACKPINK will comeback in June. IKON will not re-sign their contract in september but join B.I's company (🤞), Seungyoon will release another solo album before the end of the year and YGNGG will not debut in 2022.
And that's all I'll predict because surely I'll be wrong anyway. Wouldn't it be cool if they did a YG Family concert again though 😭 even if it's just online, when IKON is still at the company 😭 and they introduce the members of YGNGG 🙏 One can only dream

March 9 / 10, 2022 update
There are three things I want to add.
One I could have added earlier, but I didn't because me and other Latte agreed that it was unwise then because of political tensions and how we saw hate campaigns go around. But now that the elections are over...
Recently, the (losing) president's candidate for the liberals in South Korea, Lee Jae-Myung, used a (quite.. awful sounding) cover / adaptation of Journey To Atlantis for his election campaign. It was quite surreal? And while his party isn't great either and failed to work for women's rights either, he was the more left-leaning member within his party who focuses on social housing and welfare, and a better option than the fascist opponent. It was strange but a bit fun but we decided to not draw attention to it anymore because we saw a troll, part of the hate campaign, post a meme with very graphic, triggering SA jokes under a Latte tweet about the song in the campaign. We didn't want any of that mess to be involved with the girls so we kept quiet. I do feel like mentioning it now though, because it's pretty bizarre in hindsight. The song is really bad so idk if I want to link to it but there you go.
Second thing that came to mind was Solbin recently going to an art exhibit that seemed to be about Korean independence and all kinds of human rights advocacy.
The photos of the folder and texts on the wall that she shared, also show English translations. I really don't mean to reduce politics to a 'k-pop thing' or can say she posted the photos as direct response to one specific thing. I wanted to highlight it, because the post made me appreciate her even more as a person, similar to when she defended another woman from a misogynist's comments on tv. Solbin just seems very fun, intelligent and empathetic and I want to commend her for sharing her views on matters, even if implicitly.
Third and lastly, but definitely not less important, a free online charity concert is coming up called "We Are All One", meant to raise money for Ukraine war refugees. LABOUM and B.I (Hanbin) are the first to be announced in the lineup. I was suspicious about the event and soon realized that free ticket holders are, many of whom unknowingly, being made to engage with cryptocurrency (CTL COIN, and much more) and end up with crypto wallets in their ticket accounts that they can't delete. There is a lot of scammy stuff going on overall. Please read the PSAs well.
Two Latte I talked to unfortunately aleady had a ticket reserved and felt sorry about it but it's not their fault. Fans of LABOUM, and to a lesser extent of the other artist, proposed organizing a fundraiser / donation ourselves instead of through the concert. Latte have already won the opportunity to donate to a cause for Ukraine recently in the StanWorld streaming app, so that is what we will do. We might organize something more but it's in talks. Those who do hold a ticket and regret it now, consider sharing a stream or reupload to ensure less people support the event directly.
If you read about the event online, beware of this and feel free to share the images and info with others. More artists will likely be added to the lineup, as last year's also had a bunch (e.g. TXT, Purple Kiss) though back then there was no crypto nor NFT involvement, it seems.
Updates on LABOUM (March 8, 2022)
Starting with the most important (sadly bad) news, officialLABOUM on twitter shared a notice today that Solbin and Soyeon contracted COVID-19 with mild complaints. Jinyea and Haein had negative test results. I'm always very worried about long covid so I hope the girls can take enough rest and recover well. Please wish Soyeon and Solbin well on twt if you use it. ❤
Solbin uploaded a part or demo of a new song on her Soundcloud yesterday, called '비어 았는 사이' ('Empty Moment' or 'While We're Empty'). Solbin shared it in her Instagram story and tagged producer Swin Lee, who worked with LABOUM before and with some other groups like GWSN. He shared the song on his insta story too so he likely still works with LABOUM. Solbin's songs are quite sad and vulnerable in tone and lyrics but so beautiful. So go check out her soundcloud! ^^
Jinyea and Haein appeared in this show about food last week. Idk but it has English subtitles so it's more accessible and it seems fun to watch!
Jinyea is going to appear in the MBC variety show Hangout With Yoo, airing March 12, 06:20 PM KST. The episode is a special about MBTI.
The host of the show, Yoo Jae-suk, is a big fan of LABOUM and a large reason that Journey To Atlantis (상상더하기) charted in 2021. This is the preview for the episode.
5. Edit: Remember the StanWorld app event? Latte were able to gather over 1 million points on the app with streaming parties and check-ins. With those points, we will get YouTube ads for LABOUM MVs for one day. Earlier, Latte also won 2 days of ads. They will be shown in East and South Asia, as that's where LABOUM tends to have more fans and the MV can be more effective. The first 2 days of ads will be for Kiss Kiss MV and are up on March 9 - 10. So prepare for an influx of views and please help potential new fans get to know the members!
6. Edit 2: LABOUM also appeared in the show "Gangnam Insiders Fix", season 4. I don't quite understand what's going on but there you go.
7. Edit 3: Interpark Music Plus edited LABOUM's MV titles so that now those that have both an English and Korean song name, show both in the title! This is great bc there were some that either international or Korean audiences couldn't find before.

K-pop in 2019: BTS, Blackpink break new ground, but deaths and scandal tarnish image of Korean music industry
BTS topped the charts across the world, Blackpink broke records on YouTube and Twice made history on their groundbreaking tour of Japan
The ‘Burning Sun’ sex abuse and corruption scandal, the deaths of singers Sulli, Goo Hara, and Cha In-ha, and vote rigging, cast a shadow over bands’ successes
K-pop was in a strange place at the end of the previous decade. Its biggest artists, such as Rain, BoA and Wonder Girls showed potential to take the sound global, but there was a disconnect between the excitement for the music in Asia and the rest of the world.
Fast forward to 2019 and the K-pop scene is at an all-time high in terms of commercial success and global interest, with this past year being perhaps the industry’s biggest to date.
From the boundaries pushed internationally to the darkness that seeped into the pop-culture consciousness, 2019 was a significant year for K-pop as it moved forward with a new-found rush of interest while reckoning with a series of tragedies and scandals.
These were some of the biggest developments in K-pop during 2019.
Superstars shine brighter
BTS’ roll-call of achievements grew in 2019 as the boy band broke new ground for South Korean artists. Early in the year, they took part in the world’s most prestigious music awards ceremony as presenters at the 61st Grammy Awards, a moment of critical visibility for South Korean artists.
Two months later, BTS would release their new EP Map of the Soul: Persona, ahead of a well-received performance on Saturday Night Live (the American TV show has the ability to boost or ruin careers).
They broke records on YouTube with the video to the single Boy With Luv (scoring 78 million views in its first 24 hours of release – that is close to 1,000 views per second), and reached No 1 on the charts in countries such as South Korea, the US (where it tied a Billboard-chart record previously set by The Beatles), the UK, Australia, and Argentina.
BTS reinforced their global dominance by winning two awards at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards and undertaking a stadium world tour; their “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” concerts sold out venues such as London’s Wembley Stadium and Seoul’s Olympic Stadium. They ended the year on a high note, winning eight awards at the Mnet Asian Music Awards ceremony in Nagoya, Japan, on December 4.
Girl band Blackpink made waves in 2019 with a welcome debut at the Coachella music festival in the US on the same weekend that BTS played Saturday Night Live, giving K-pop its most high-profile week in America to date.
Blackpink also undertook a major world tour and broke records on YouTube with their Kill This Love music video. Fellow girl group Twice made history as the first K-pop girl group to undertake a Japanese dome tour.
A new generation prepares to rise
A new crop of promising superstars made their debuts in 2019.
Daniel Kang – a stand-out member of the sensational-but-temporary boy band Wanna One – became CEO of his Konnect Entertainment label; his debut album Color on Me broke records for solo artists in South Korea.
The post-Wanna One excitement continued with exciting new boy bands such as AB6IX (one of the top-selling rookie acts in K-pop this year, featuring former Wanna One members Lee Dae-hwi and Park Woo-jin) and CIX (a message-driven quintet featuring Bae Jin-young), and new solo stars.
Big Hit Entertainment, the promoters behind BTS, diversified its roster with the launch of boy band Tomorrow X Together, who showcased a more tender image. The group had a hit debut album and generated interest across the world.
Itzy was the stand-out new female act this year, and continue JYP Entertainment’s strong history of girl groups, following acts such as Wonder Girls, Miss A and Twice. The quintet became an overnight sensation with empowering singles such as Dalla Dalla and Icy, and toured Asia and America.
Groups such as Ityzy, Blackpink, G)I-dle and Everglow show the promise of powerful K-pop girl groups.
The darkness comes to light
The K-pop world was rocked by a the multifaceted “Burning Sun” scandal, named after a Seoul nightclub co-owned by Seungri, a former member of the boy band BigBang. The club was at the epicentre of one of the biggest scandals to hit not just K-pop but South Korean society.
Involving sexual assault, prostitution, hidden-camera footage, drug use, police corruption and tax evasion, it captivated and baffled a world that seemed unable to reconcile K-pop’s squeaky-clean image with this raft of crimes.
The fallout from the scandal has been major, and there is more to come. Seungri retired from BigBang after being charged in connection with prostitution. Singer Jung Joon-young was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to filming women in sexual and compromising acts without their permission, and sharing the footage in chat rooms. Choi Jong-hoon, former guitarist and keyboardist in K-pop rock band FT Island, was sentenced to five years in jail for sharing illegal photos, illegally filming and sharing pornographic videos, and bribing police offers to cover up gang rape and drink-driving incidents.
The scandal also led to the exit of YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk. The 49-year-old stepped down after allegations of drug use, providing prostitution services, tax evasion and having corrupt relationships with police.
The music industry faced embarrassment after the revelation that it had rigged results of TV singing competitions Produce 48 and Produce X 101. South Korean authorities found that the winners had been chosen from the start, despite viewers paying to vote for their favourites.
News of the rigged vote, and the backlash which followed, put at risk the careers of popular girl group IZ*One and boy band X1, which are made up of contestants on the two shows.
The were changes to the line-ups of many bands this year. Super Junior announced long-time member Kangin would leave the group following years of controversy over assaults and drink-driving; B.I departed boy band iKon after allegations he had attempted to purchase banned drugs marijuana and LSD; Hwall left The Boyz over long-term health issues, Woojin departed Stray Kids for reasons unknown, and Wonho left the internationally known group Monsta X following a series of accusations about his past, including that he was in debt.
Tragedies, but hope for the future
The saddest K-pop stories concerned the deaths of singers Sulli, 25, Goo Hara, 28, and Cha In-ha, 27. Former girl group members Sulli and Goo were suspected to have taken their own lives after years of dealing with online cyberbullying and malicious comments from South Korea’s hypercritical fans. Cha In-ha, a budding actor, had not faced public criticism and the circumstances of his death on December 3 are still not known.
Their deaths highlight the need for the industry to recognise the extreme stress its stars deal with and to provide resources to head off the risk of more deaths.
Slowly but surely, change has been coming to the industry. Groups such as BTS, Twice, Stray Kids and Ateez have tried to tackle the stigma in South Korea about discussing mental health by speaking about the issue in interviews and through their lyrics.
Earlier this year Twice revealed that band member Mina was suffering from anxiety and stage insecurity, and would be sitting out the group’s tour. More recently, former Wonder Girls member HyunA shared on social media how she has been dealing with depression, panic disorders, and a fainting condition.
While K-pop is dealing with growing pains – and there are probably more to come – perhaps in 2020 fans will be celebrating the global accomplishments of its superstars rather than mourning its victims and reeling at its scandals.

What Do YOU Want? Pt. 5
A Kwon Jiyong series ft. Kim Jiwon
Genre: Angst/Fluff
Word count: 3,000
Summary: The most important person in the world to you can appear most often when you least expect it. But through everything, you can’t forget about you and your own happiness. Who are you happy with? Who is the best for you?
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 ... Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
(A/N: Wow, jeez, ok this came out a lot longer than the others, but I hope you still enjoy it!)
If someone had told you 3 years ago that you would be where you are now, you would have laughed your ass off. If they said that you would give up the biggest opportunity that has ever been given to you, while Jiyong went on tour across the globe for concerts and fan meetings without a single returned phone call, you would have continued to laugh in their face.
But here you were, and there he was; enjoying his life without you and a work environment where he no longer has to worry about seeing the face of the girl who walked out on him.
After seeing Jiyong that day and allowing your hopes to get the best of you, you were convinced it would be a long way down. But you surprised yourself. Getting out of YG proved to be far more relieving to your mental health than you thought it would. It didn’t take long for you to get out of the metaphorical pit of sadness once you found yourself learning to thoroughly enjoy life again.
You began offering hip hop classes at your studio in Seoul and felt immense pride at the rate that they filled up. People of all ages and backgrounds flocked to your studio; all wanting to learn under YG’s former chief choreographer.
There was no greater sight to you; watching everyone dance along to moves you’d choreographed as they each made it their own. For the first time in nearly a year, you showed up to work every day with a massive smile on your face, knowing there was no specific style to imbed in anyone’s minds anymore, but to instead encourage individuality.
You found further solace in the moments you got to spend with Bobby, B.I., Jinhwan, and Mino. The five of you met up at least once a week for dinner, drinks, and to get a chance to just forget about anything and everything that had plagued your minds with stress. You looked forward to the moments you all could just sit around and be human for a while.
And so, life went on.
“To you guys! For being the only men in my life that have truly kept me going the past few months. For that, I thank you. And I love you.” You were about five shots into the night and toasting a sixth with the boys, when it was quite clear the alcohol was starting to affect you.
Has it really been months?
Your gaze wandered to a calendar above the bar that showed May in big letters. You squinted, trying to see what days’ boxes had already been crossed out.
“Well, Y/N, is drunk.” Jinhwan laughed, while you snapped back to reality and hit his shoulder in response.
“Yah! No I’m not! You know what? I take it back. To Bobby, B.I., and Mino.” You rose the full shot glass above your head again, this time with a sassy look in Jinhwan’s direction and tossed it back. The other three boys laughed at his expense and drank with you.
“Don’t deny it! You just get so sappy when you’re drunk, admit it!” Jinhwan had his pointer finger extended accusingly in your direction, as he looked at the other boys for assistance.
“He’s not wrong.” “Yeah, Y/N and Bobby both get super sappy and cuddly when they drink.” B.I. and Mino aided in throwing you under the bus while you laughed and hid your face that had flushed bright pink.
It was all too true. With enough alcohol in your system, you would let absolutely everyone around you know just how much they meant to you; usually followed by a lot of hugging. After drinking enough times together, it was clear that Bobby was the same way. The two of you would often end up clinging to each other in a lazy heap on a couch or chair by the end of the night, which the other boys seemed to find hilarious.
“You’re just jealous you’re not as lovable!” Bobby, who had started feeling pretty good himself, put his arm over your shoulder while you both leaned your heads together with big cheesy grins in the others’ direction.
“Yeah, that’s it…” B.I.’s sarcasm could be smelt across the table, while everyone chimed in with booze-induced laughter.
The night continued, just as fun and stress relieving as any other. The five of you just sat around a table, telling stories and playing random drinking games. Time flew by and before any of you knew it, the last call from the bar had signaled an end to your night of fun. Your stomach hurt from the amount of laughter you’d done all night, but felt relief in knowing you were coherent enough to get yourself home.
“I don’t know if you should be driving, Y/N.” Bobby hadn’t let go of your hand the entire walk from the bar to the parking garage down the street. You laughed at this, because it appeared he was more buzzed than you thought and thus required your hand for balance.
“I’m fine, Bobby, I promise! You guys get home safe now, all right?” You reached up and pinched one of his cheeks before you let go of his hand while he squeezed his eyes shut and groaned like an embarrassed child.
“Yah! Fine! Text me when you get home though, ok?” He pointed a finger towards your face and squinted his eyes like a scolding parent. You saluted him in agreement and gave his hand over to B.I. to take your spot in keeping him upright.
You gave each of the other boys a hug goodbye while you walked to your car. There was always a huge smile on your face that wouldn’t leave until the following morning when you hung out with those guys and you relished in it. Once inside, you cruised down the street towards your apartment; music blaring through your mediocre sound system.
You ascended your stairs with ease, mentally patting yourself on the back for being able to drink all night and still manage to drive home and get to the doorstep nearly sober. Once you’d gotten inside, you immediately threw yourself in bed and let out a contented sigh. There was no fighting your heavy eyelids as you drifted into unconsciousness; that same grin still lingering on your face. It had been quite a while since you last felt this good.
You woke the next morning immediately feeling victorious for not having a hangover. You reached for your phone to text Bobby to brag, but stopped yourself once you noticed a surprising amount of notifications coming from Instagram.
You had a relatively popular page since your name was well known in the states and especially in Korea after Jiyong had made your relationship public a year and a half ago. You’d been bombarded with swarms of his fans tagging you in posts and comments about him ever since.
Recently, for obvious reasons, you’d begun to ignore the app entirely so you didn’t see the content behind the mass of notifications anymore. However, today showed a significantly higher number than when you caught a glance yesterday, which immediately sent chills up your spine. With your guard completely up, you opened Instagram to see what was going on.
You regretted the decision almost instantly.
There in your main feed, in nearly a hundred tags, and in majority of the suggested posts, were pictures of Jiyong from some fashion magazine. But he wasn’t alone. Your face contorted in confusion and angst as you read a few of the captions.
“G Dragon plays Nana Komatsu’s sweetheart for #Nylon Japan’s May issue. Out now!”
“GD and Nana play convincing lovers in Nylon magazine’s most recent issue.”
“BigBang’s G Dragon cozies up to Nana Komatsu in #NylonJapan’s newest issue!”
You and Jiyong used to get a kick out of reading such headlines to each other every morning. “Wow, jagi, I didn’t realize you’d gone on all these secret romantic dates with Dara in Seoul when the two of us were definitely in Paris that week. How could you!” “No! Forgive me, jagi! It’s not what it looks like! I literally had no idea!” The two of you would harp; both of your voices dripping in sarcasm while you couldn’t contain the giggles.
Most headlines were ridiculous, especially when they stemmed from a picture of him simply within the vicinity of a girl. Any other sort of modeling shoots or reports designed to assume his love life would have been easily written off in your mind.
But there was something about the way he was holding this girl that had your skin crawling.
Google was pulled up on your phone in seconds as you proceeded with an online search thorough enough to find out everything there was to know about whoever the hell she was. It appeared she was an actress and model from Japan. And God, was she beautiful.
You unknowingly held your breath the entire time as you scrolled past every picture from their photoshoot. They looked too good together and you hated how much it bothered you.
“I was very nervous to shoot with a person I admire. It felt like a dream to have GD next to me, and when I saluted him saying ‘This is like a dream’, he replied ‘This is a dream,’ making me smile in spite of my nervousness. I thought of it as a special photoshoot sent from God to celebrate my 20th birthday and did the shooting inscribing the cuts (shots) one by one in my heart.” Great, so she was nearly a year younger than you too. Her comment on working with him had you nauseous by the very first sentence. But it was Jiyong’s statement that really did you in.
“I had previously met a still innocent Komatsu Nana, but this year I was happy to meet a more adult Komatsu Nana. I think she’s a person full of different kinds of charms. Since our tour had just ended the previous day, I thought the photoshoot would be really tiring, but thanks to her, it became a fun shoot.”
As you reread his words about this girl once more, tears started flowing down your cheeks without a warning. With a frustrated throw of a pillow across the room, you took a deep breath. It was too damn early in the day for this.
Well, what did you expect? He couldn’t tell you why he needed you to stay and now he’s showing everyone how fine he is without you. God, why do you have to care this much? It was over months ago and he’s the one who stopped trying. HE stopped showing any effort at wanting to make things right between the two of you. You had finally just started to feel like you had moved on...but you weren’t ready to see him actually move on to someone else.
While you did your best to control any sobs trying to escape, you were startled when the sound of a phone ringing filled the silent room. Bobby’s name appeared on your screen and you felt yourself slightly panic as you tried to sniff away all traces of sadness before answering.
“I might have passed out but that doesn’t make it any less uncool when you don’t text me that you made it home, you punk!” Bobby exclaimed, though his groggy voice let you know he had also just woken up.
“Ah, I’m sorry. I fell asleep as soon as I got inside. I was going to text you.” You did the best you could to prevent your voice from shaking.
“Sure you did! Well, hey, I had fun as always and am down to hang later today if you want. I’ve got the day off!”
“Sure. I have off too.” He took a pause before replying and you knew then that you had been caught.
“Are you all right, Y/N? You seem sad or something. Hungover maybe?”
You sniffed as the tears fought their way back to your eyes before you could answer. “I’m fine. Honestly!”
“Yeah, ok, that’s bull. Make yourself decent because I’m on my way.”
“What? Bobby, I’m fine! You don’t have to do that for me, I…”
“Tough. You have no choice. I’ll be there in ten.” He’d cut you off and hung up the phone before you could protest. But despite your words and the tears that had rolled down your cheeks, you found yourself smiling as you got out of bed to get dressed.
He arrived ten minutes later, just as he’d said, and you got up from your couch to answer the door at a snail’s pace; using every last possible second to control the overwhelming emotions the morning had thrust on you. Bobby walked right in, put his hands gently on your shoulders and lowered his head to look you in the eye.
“Y/N. What’s wrong?” His serious tone managed to get a giggle out of you, though you knew it wasn’t his intention.
“Yah! Don’t laugh at me, I’m trying to comfort you!” He furrowed his brows in light frustration, which only made you start to laugh more. You covered your mouth with the back of your hand and found yourself unable to stop giggling as he folded his arms across his chest in a pout, waiting for you to finish.
“I’m. I’m sorry, Bobby, I. just. I just don’t really want to talk about it right now. Can you just hang out with me and we can talk about anything else?” You managed to control your laughter halfway through your request, as he nodded in acknowledgement, cracking a smile.
“Yeah, that’s cool! But tell me at any time if you want to talk about anything, ok? I just want to do anything I can to help.” Damn, it had been a long time since you’d heard anyone tell you that. “But hey, now’s the perfect time for me to tell you the new plan the boys and I have come up with!”
“Oooh yes, yes, tell me, what is it?” You smiled as the two of you plopped down on the couch.
“We’re planning on covering Exid’s Up & Down at our upcoming concerts in Japan and…we wanted to come to your studio and see if you’d help us get the dance moves down.” He tried to be nonchalant about the request and avoid eye contact, but failed the second he got a glimpse of how excited it made you.
“WHAT! Hell yeah! Are you kidding? Is this for real? Because I am so down, oh my god! This is going to be so perfect!” You were bouncing in your seat, with the world’s second biggest smile on your face; the first belonging to Bobby who was absolutely beaming as he watched you get more and more excited at the news. You couldn’t contain your happiness with the thought of working with your boys again and your mind was flooding with ideas.
“Of course it’s for real! We knew you’d be stoked.”
“Ahhh I’m more than stoked, I don’t even know how to describe this! You don’t know how happy that just made me!” You leaned forward and pulled him into a hug, shaking him back and forth with excitement, while he laughed at you.
“Aish, you’re such a dork about this kind of thing” he teased, while you sat back in your spot on the couch; the two of you exchanging similar facial expressions and sticking your tongues out at each other.
Bobby had once again succeeded at brightening your day. You don’t know how he did it but being around him seemed to always make you forget all your worries and stresses. It was almost like everything melted away as the meaning of sadness took on an alien form.
You spent the rest of the day just hanging out with each other and talking about all kinds of random topics as the hours flew by. You grabbed food around lunch and later again at dinner time; jamming out in the car on the way there with the stereo in Bobby’s car on high. He was the only person you knew you could genuinely dance with; however the hell you felt like moving. No matter how stupid others probably thought the two of you looked, neither of you ever cared. By the time it got late and you parted ways, you’d completely forgotten about why the day had started off so horribly.
A week later, you found yourself lounging on your couch, surrounded by small takeout boxes of the dinner you’d treated yourself to with B.I., Jinhwan and Bobby. You’d all met up to discuss when they’d stop by your studio to go over Exid’s choreography and ended up stuffing your faces. Each of you shared a good laugh at how hilarious it was that Yang would have no idea you’d be helping them. You’d gotten word that the man had replaced your position less than a week after you told him you wanted to quit so a little scheming behind his back didn’t strike a chord with anyone’s conscience.
“I respect what you do,” my ass.
Your stomach was absolutely filled to capacity at this point in the night and all you could do was lay there, staring at your TV in defeat. Your heart was otherwise entirely content, knowing that in just one week’s time you would be reunited with the rest of the members of iKon.
You were in the middle of readjusting your blankets amongst the Styrofoam boxes when you felt the couch vibrate.
“God damnit.” You muttered to yourself while you sifted through the cushions and blankets, trying to find where your phone had disappeared to. You found it just in time for the last few rings and quickly turned it over to check the ID of the caller.
Your heart skipped a beat as your eyes met Jiyong’s name on your screen. You froze, unintentionally allowing the call to be missed. You stared at it, waiting to see if a voicemail would be left and silently praying to the universe that there wouldn’t be.
The sudden vibration caught you off guard as his name appeared once again in another attempted call. You calmed your racing heart with a deep breath as you brought the phone closer to your face.
With one quick movement, you tapped the left icon on the screen and ignored the call.
